Gobierno de Canarias · 2026-11-02

The Government of the Canary Islands has declared a Maximum Alert for rain on the island of La Palma starting from 02:00 hours today, Monday, November 2nd, due to the intensity of the recorded rainfall.

The Directorate General of Emergencies, applying the Specific Emergency Plan of the Canary Islands for Risks of Adverse Meteorological Phenomena (PEFMA), made this decision based on information from the State Meteorological Agency and other available sources. Convective activity is developing with high intensity on the eastern slope of La Palma, with accumulated rainfall of 62 mm in one hour and 138 mm in 12 hours.
The rest of the island of La Palma, as well as the islands of El Hierro and La Gomera, remain on Alert Status. Meanwhile, Tenerife and Gran Canaria are on Pre-Alert Status, although strong showers are expected, especially in the north and metropolitan area of Tenerife.
Convection is expected to continue throughout Monday, November 2nd, in the islands of El Hierro, La Palma, and La Gomera, with scattered showers that could be very intense, exceeding 30 mm per hour, with higher probability until 15:00 hours. Precipitation, although less intense and more scattered, will persist in the mountainous islands until Tuesday.
The Directorate General of Emergencies will continue to monitor the situation, given the uncertainty in forecasts regarding the location, intensity, and persistence of the rain, and will update the declarations if necessary.
