The El Paso City Council has announced the opening of registrations for a new series of textile craft courses, focused on traditional costume making and cutting and sewing, aimed at residents interested in preserving and learning cultural trades.
These training initiatives seek to strengthen local traditions and offer citizens the opportunity to acquire valuable skills in the field of design and sewing. The mayor of El Paso, Eloy Martín, has highlighted the importance of these programs in keeping the municipality's cultural identity alive.
The Traditional Costume Making course, taught by Fátima Acosta, will be the first to open its registration period. Those interested can sign up from Monday, April 6 to Friday, April 10 at the Culture and Crafts Office, from 09:00h to 13:00h. The training will begin on April 15 and will take place on Wednesdays and Thursdays, from 16:00h to 20:00h, at the Colegio de Tacande.
Subsequently, the Cutting and Sewing course, led by Waleska Morín, will open its registration period from Monday, April 27 to Thursday, April 30, also at the Culture and Crafts Office during morning hours. This course will start on May 5 and will be held on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, from 17:00h to 20:00h, at the Hogar de la Tercera Edad. To participate in the latter, it will be essential for students to have their own sewing machine.
Both training activities have limited places and are primarily aimed at people registered in the municipality. The councilors for Culture and Crafts, Irinova Hernández and Yaiza González, have highlighted the high annual demand for these courses and their contribution to the dissemination of crafts and cultural participation.
The City Council has also announced that registrations for other courses such as Traditional Embroidery of La Palma, Basketry, Frivolité, and Leather Goods will open soon, thus expanding the training offer for the coming months. For more details, interested parties can go to the Culture and Crafts Departments or call 638 666 257.
