The Cabildo de La Palma and the University of La Laguna (ULL) held a crucial meeting to advance the configuration of the future University Campus of La Palma, a strategic project aimed at boosting the island's educational and scientific offerings.
The president of the Cabildo de La Palma, Sergio Rodríguez, and the rector of the ULL, Francisco García, met to coordinate the next steps. Rodríguez highlighted that the island institution is working to have the civil project for the infrastructure ready this year, while the University of La Laguna will assume academic leadership and the design of the facility's needs.
The president of La Palma recalled that this campus is born with a clear vocation for institutional integration, emphasizing the fundamental participation of scientific entities present on the island. These include the Astrophysical Institute of the Canary Islands (IAC), Involcan, Plocan, and the National Geographic Institute (IGN), which will contribute to the project's development.

"This campus is not just a building; it is the epicenter of a knowledge ecosystem where university and science join hands to generate new opportunities on our Island."
For his part, the rector of the University of La Laguna, Francisco García, stated that he undertakes this project with the responsibility of articulating a solid and coherent academic model. This model will integrate various quality training and scientific initiatives, seeking to establish the campus as a stable part of the Canary Islands' public university system.
“
"Our commitment is for the campus development to become a stable part of the Canary Islands' public university system, capable of generating long-term training and research opportunities."
García added that the La Palma Campus of the University of La Laguna has been an important axis of its activity in recent years, and this is an opportunity to strengthen it. This includes the progressive on-site presence in nursing studies and their expansion. President Rodríguez thanked the rector for his commitment to lead a project that will unify academic work and offer a training program directly connected to the scientific reality of La Palma.
With this roadmap, La Palma seeks to consolidate its position as an educational benchmark in the Canary Archipelago, investing in modern infrastructure and a postgraduate training offer linked to strategic technological sectors.
