The La Palma Island Council has initiated one of the most significant urban and environmental regeneration projects in the Aridane Valley. The initiative, funded through the Insular Program for Local Development (PIDL), will convert the surroundings of Montaña Tenisca in Los Llanos de Aridane into an extensive ecological urban park, designed for citizen enjoyment and improved quality of life.
Following approval by the insular Governing Council, the first phase of the environmental and landscape restoration project for this emblematic enclave will receive an investment of 2.6 million euros. This action aims to substantially enhance the accessibility, sustainability, and landscape integration of the entire area.
These actions generate concrete changes in each locality, but at the same time are part of a global vision that strengthens and structures the Island as a whole.
The president of the La Palma Island Council, Sergio Rodríguez, highlighted the PIDL's role in the island's cohesion, modernization, and balance. He emphasized institutional cooperation with the 14 town councils to realize transformative projects that boost social and economic development, forming part of a global vision for the island.
The mayor of Los Llanos de Aridane, Javier Llamas, underscored the collaboration between administrations for projects with significant municipal impact. He noted that the intervention will transform a strategic space, create new green areas, promote accessible and sustainable mobility, and offer a renewed image of the Montaña Tenisca environment.
Thanks to coordinated work with the Island Council, we can transform a strategic area of the municipality, generate new green spaces and areas for coexistence, promote more accessible and sustainable mobility, and offer a renewed and distinctive image of the Montaña Tenisca surroundings.
The project includes the creation of a large urban park with extensive green areas, rest spaces, pedestrian paths, and facilities for leisure and sports. The goal is to environmentally restore the area, improve its functionality, and make it a meeting point for residents and visitors.
Among the highlights are the construction of a viewpoint offering privileged views of the municipality and its natural surroundings, as well as sports areas to promote healthy lifestyles. Improved accessibility will be achieved with a panoramic elevator connecting to the Castillo de La Virgen area.
Sustainability is a central focus, with the installation of a 75.9-kilowatt solar farm for municipal self-consumption, located next to the viewpoint. This infrastructure aims to enhance energy efficiency and reduce environmental impact, aligning with the La Palma Island Council's ecological transition goals.
