Dozens of workers from the Taliarte Sur sociosanitary center in Telde demonstrated this Tuesday, demanding a solution to persistent staff shortages and workload overload affecting service quality.

The staff of the Taliarte Sur sociosanitary center, located in Telde, have taken to the streets again to demand improvements in their working conditions. The protest, which follows previous mobilizations, focuses on the call for increased staffing and a reduced workload, aspects they consider essential for ensuring dignified care for the dependent elderly residents.
Protesters report that the failure to cover sick leaves and other worker absences forces the remaining staff to endure excessive workloads. This situation, they claim, negatively impacts the quality of care received by the center's most vulnerable individuals. Some users and family members have joined the protest, sharing these concerns.
The sociosanitary center has a unique characteristic: within the same building, areas of direct public management, overseen by the Cabildo's Institute of Social and Sociosanitary Care, coexist with areas of indirect management through a contract with a private company. This duality results in significant differences in staffing, salaries, and working conditions, with the latter being worse in the part managed by the company Clece.
The situation is further complicated because the contract to manage three floors of the center, awarded to a new company, Fundación SAMU, and put out to tender by the Cabildo in 2025, has been frozen since May. This is due to a special procurement appeal filed by another company that competed for the management of the places at Taliarte Sur.
