The Arrecife City Council, through its Youth Department, is organizing the first edition of the Arrecife Summer Geek on August 12th, coinciding with World Youth Day. This initiative joins the Youth Week program and aims to replicate the success of the Arrecife Winter Geek held in December 2025.
The council intends to expand the leisure offerings for the municipality's youth, creating a meeting space where they can share hobbies, participate in various activities, and learn about the work of local associations related to pop culture, manga, video games, and cosplay.
The event will take place at the Youth House of Arrecife between 10:00 AM and 8:00 PM. It will feature themed areas dedicated to video games, board games, illustration, cosplay, and craft creation inspired by fictional characters. Associations and collectives from Lanzarote will participate to give visibility to the youth associative fabric.
Among the main attractions is the gaming zone with video games and virtual reality experiences. The association Lánzate will organize activities on video games and diversity, while Artist Alley will bring together illustration creators. Mesas del Tágora will offer board and strategy game workshops, and Égida Softcombat Lanzarote will hold demonstrations of simulated combat.
The workshop program includes crafts such as Hama Beads figures, felt Totoro characters, K-pop keychain creation, magic wand making, geek-themed bag decoration, and Warhammer miniature painting. There will also be K-pop dance activities.
As a special guest, voice actor Luis Posada, known for voicing characters in film, television, and video games, will give a conference on his professional experience and participate in a Q&A session with attendees.
This initiative is part of the celebration of World Youth Day, promoted by the United Nations, aiming to foster youth participation. The Summer Geek is presented as an alternative leisure activity based on creativity and community, in a context where geek culture and video games are increasingly present in youth and cultural events.
