The Canary Islands Health Service (SCS) has announced the offer of 492 Specialized Health Training (FSE) places for the 2026-2027 call, the highest figure to date, representing a notable increase compared to previous years.

The offer for the 2026-2027 call marks a milestone for the Canary Islands Health Service (SCS), which is allocating a total of 492 Specialized Health Training (FSE) places. This figure represents an increase of 168 places compared to the 2018 offer and 27 places compared to 2025, surpassing the national average growth.
One of the main novelties is the reinforcement of the Family and Community Medicine and Nursing specialties, considered strategic for generational renewal in Primary Care. Six additional MIR places have been incorporated for this specialty, bringing the total to 98, and 34 Nursing places, four more than in the previous edition. These increases align with the SCS's '+Primary Care' strategy and the Ministry of Health's guidelines.
The training offer, covering 55 specialties, also doubles the training capacity for the new specialty of Emergency Medicine, increasing from three to six places. This measure aims to progressively strengthen the response capacity of hospital emergency services in the face of high demand.
In the area of Mental Health, 41 places are maintained, including twelve for Psychiatry, ten for Clinical Psychology, and seventeen for specialist Nursing. The call also includes two places for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. Increases are noted in Neurology, Internal Medicine, and Clinical Neurophysiology, optimizing available training resources.
Lanzarote consolidates its role as a center for specialized health training among the non-capital islands, offering 23 FSE places. The Multiprofessional Training Unit for Family and Community Care will offer eight MIR places and four for nursing residents. The Geriatrics Unit maintains two MIR and two nursing specialists, while the Obstetrics and Gynecology Unit retains three Midwifery places. The Doctor José Molina Orosa University Hospital is expanding its teaching activity in five specialties.
The distribution of the 492 places is concentrated in Internal Medicine (MIR) with 360 places, followed by Nursing (EIR) with 102. The remaining places include fifteen for Pharmacy (FIR), ten for Psychology (PIR), four for Hospital Radiophysics, and one for Biology (BIR).
