The Insular Water Consortium, comprising the Cabildo and seven town councils, has unanimously agreed to the immediate expulsion of Canal Gestión Lanzarote from all its facilities.

The decision, made during an extraordinary assembly held at the Cabildo headquarters, ends the contractual relationship with the company that had been managing the island's integral water cycle since June 2013. The measure will take effect once Canal Gestión is formally notified and legal services confirm the notification.
The president of the Cabildo, Oswaldo Betancort, explained that the contract termination is due to persistent network losses, exceeding 50% of desalinated water production, and ongoing breaches of essential contractual obligations by the company.
Betancort highlighted the unanimous vote, thanking the mayors present for their cooperation, despite the absence of representation from Haría. This decision aligns with the opinion of the Canary Islands Consultative Council, which supports the resolution of the proceedings initiated about a year ago.
The Insular Water Consortium will also pursue legal actions to claim pending investments and seek damages from Canal Gestión Lanzarote.
Lastly, the president expressed confidence in the employees of Canal Gestión Lanzarote, who will transition to the Consortium's responsibility. Betancort suggested this change could be a turning point in reducing the high rates of labor absenteeism recently recorded, which have approached 30%.
