The police operation began after detecting an increase in crimes within the Yaiza police jurisdiction. The geolocation of a stolen mobile phone proved crucial for progress. One victim activated the device's tracking function, which indicated a location at a bus stop in Playa Blanca. A patrol unit was dispatched to the scene and identified the suspect among those present.
Upon searching a backpack carried by the detainee, officers found the mobile phone and other items potentially linked to recent theft reports. This prompted investigators to expand their inquiries to determine the origin of these items and the suspect's connection to the crimes.
Analysis of surveillance camera footage from the area also proved significant. The recordings identified the suspect carrying the same backpack recovered during the intervention and allowed investigators to correlate his movements with the times and locations of the thefts, allegedly reconstructing his modus operandi.
According to the police hypothesis, the detainee surveilled guests before entering rooms and used public transport to move between establishments, hindering tracking efforts. The investigation concluded that he allegedly operated in various tourist complexes, taking advantage of guests' absences.
The police investigation is part of the Civil Guard's efforts to enhance security in Lanzarote's tourist areas, particularly during periods of high visitor numbers, protecting tourists and their belongings.
