The Cabildo de Lanzarote and the Government of the Canary Islands have reviewed the progress of 701 public housing units on the island, with 201 under construction and 382 in the planning phase, aiming to boost home promotion and rental assistance.

The meeting between both institutions primarily aimed to coordinate advancements in the autonomous public housing strategy in Lanzarote. This gathering underscores the administrations' commitment to addressing the housing needs on the island, following a period of reduced activity in this sector.
Currently, the public housing plan in Lanzarote encompasses a total of 701 units. Of these, 382 are in the planning stage, while 201 are already under construction. Additionally, 118 homes have been acquired for rehabilitation or immediate use.

"The coordination between the Cabildo de Lanzarote and the Government of the Canary Islands has been fundamental to activating the promotion of public housing after years of inactivity in this area."

In addition to the construction and acquisition of properties, other complementary measures were discussed, such as rental aid. Notably, the Youth Rental Voucher stands out, an initiative designed to facilitate access to housing for the island's younger population, strengthened by inter-institutional collaboration. These aids seek to alleviate the economic burden for those who cannot afford homeownership.
A crucial point addressed was the importance of the Public Registry of Protected Housing Applicants of the Canary Islands. This registry is essential for accessing any public housing promotion and allows for efficient management of applications. Interested parties can register online or in person at the offices of the Canarian Housing Institute and the island's town halls.
It is vital for applicants to update their registration every three years, as non-renewed applications will become inactive. Housing allocations are made by municipal areas, prioritizing those registered in each locality. For more information, the Government of the Canary Islands provides an official portal with all requirements and procedures.
