At an event held at Los Jameos del Agua, the Lanzarote Island Council presented more than twenty distinctions and awards, fulfilling agreements made during a plenary session last May.
Among the honorees, Juan Santana was posthumously named Favorite Son, an award that follows a similar declaration made days earlier in Haría. Liz and Larry Yaskiel also received Adoptive Son/Daughter titles for their work with the English version of 'Lancelot' magazine, alongside Kenneth Gasque, a key promoter of the Ironman Lanzarote.
The Timanfaya de Oro award was presented to Félix Hormiga (Arts), also posthumously, and to researcher Mar Carretero Castillo (Sciences). The Jameos de Oro awards recognized Adislan (Social), Bodega La Geria (Economic), Hecher Sosa (Sports), Ranchos de Pascua (Culture), APIT (Tourism), Salvamento Marítimo (Humanitarian), Ana Carrasco (Sustainability), Cristina Martel (International Solidarity), UNED Lanzarote (Educational), Club de Lucha Femenino Tinecheide (Equality), and the camel sector (Cultural Heritage).
“"These distinctions represent the sincere gratitude of an entire island towards individuals and groups who have contributed, from various fields, to enriching Lanzarote and strengthening our identity."
Island President Oswaldo Betancort emphasized that the honorees are now part of the island's collective memory. Meanwhile, Culture Minister Jesús Machín Tavío stated that these honors recognize those who have preserved traditions, fostered talent, and projected the best image of Lanzarote.
The event was attended by numerous representatives from the civil society of Lanzarote and La Graciosa, and featured musical performances by Ale Acosta and Almudena Hernández.
