Lanzarote and La Graciosa schoolchildren awarded in 'Pinta tu isla' contest

The competition, organized by the Mercedes Medina association, recognized students and teachers in Playa Honda.

The 'Pinta tu isla' school contest held its award ceremony in Playa Honda, recognizing 16 students and teachers from Lanzarote and La Graciosa.

At an event held at CICAR facilities in Playa Honda, the awards for the 'Pinta tu isla' school competition, organized by the Mercedes Medina association, were presented this Wednesday. The contest celebrated the creativity of students and teachers from Lanzarote and La Graciosa, granting a total of 16 mentions, although several categories remained vacant.
The awarded schoolchildren were Nicol Alejo, Carlota Ortega, Kala Paredes, Danelys Montelongo, Ana Isabel de Muguerza, Lily Mae Thain, Kevin Pisani, Esther Magaña, Marcin Bilski, Emma Paredes, John Correa, Álvaro Benasco, Eiden López, Yasmín Hernández, Alba Machín, and Carlota Lorenzo. Both the students and their respective educational centers received work materials as recognition.
The jury highlighted the quality of the submitted proposals, in line with the contest's regional scope. The eleventh edition, for the 2025-2026 academic year, focused on the islands' landscape as its inspirational theme. In total, over 1,700 works were received from 34 Canary Islands educational centers.
The ceremony was attended by Pedro Cabrera Arencibia, director of CICAR; Juan Cruz Sepúlveda, president of the organizing association; and Ye Cabrera, representative of the collaborating businessmen. Members of the Mercedes Medina association, Jesús Martín, director of the CEP; Myriam Hernández, education councilor for the Tías City Council; Rafael Curbelo, former inspector of Education; Ascensión Robayna, president of the SAT EL Jable Association; and representatives from CICAR also participated.
