A woman, approximately 50 years old, has been rescued alive after suffering cardiac arrest during a dive at Los Fariones beach in the municipality of Tías, Lanzarote. The rapid intervention of emergency services was crucial in reversing the critical condition.
The incident occurred around 3:09 PM when the operational room of the Canary Islands Government's Emergency and Safety Coordinating Center (CECOES) 112 received an urgent alert about a person rescued from the water requiring immediate medical assistance following a cardiac arrest during a diving activity.
An assistance protocol was immediately activated, mobilizing the Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC), the Lanzarote Emergency and Rescue Volunteers Group (GES-Emerlan), the Guardia Civil, and the Local Police. GES-Emerlan personnel initiated cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) maneuvers and applied an automated external defibrillator (AED) until the SUC arrived.
SUC medical personnel, arriving with a specialized ambulance and two basic life support units, took over the care, continuing advanced resuscitation techniques until the cardiac arrest was reversed. Once the woman's pulse was restored, she was fully stabilized in the ambulance and urgently transported to Hospital Doctor José Molina Orosa due to the initial severity of her condition.
Guardia Civil and Local Police officers from Tías also deployed to the coastal area, collaborating closely with the medical team to facilitate resuscitation efforts and the subsequent ambulance transfer, while also initiating the relevant legal proceedings.
