The Government of the Canary Islands has confirmed the imminent start of consolidation and conservation works on the facade of the Casa Luis Ramírez, located in La Caleta de Famara. The comprehensive renovation of the property, which includes the main facade, interior, and perimeter, is fully funded by the regional government with an allocation of 149,000 euros. Works are expected to begin in approximately fifteen days.
The architect in charge of the renovation, Blanca Fajardo, explained that the building will be prepared to host various public uses after the intervention. Her colleague, Patricia Betancort, responsible for the facade, highlighted the building's evident poor state of conservation, noting that it has needed renovation for many years. The process of obtaining all necessary permits, which were affected by coastal regulations, heritage requirements, and municipal licenses, has taken at least three years.
Despite periodic cleaning and shoring efforts by the Church, the state of conservation is considered "quite bad," indicating a complex restoration ahead. The Casa de Luis Ramírez is notable as a unique building, both for its history and the decorative elements of its facade, characteristic of the early 20th century. It is regarded as the most distinctive building in Famara and one of the most significant in Lanzarote due to its construction quality and decorative features from that era.
