Fundación Líneas Romero, Fundación Baleària Canarias, Asociación Mararía, Asociación Mercedes Medina, Asociación de Mujeres ATRIA, Asociación Contigo Siempre Cerca, Asociación AFA Lanzarote, Asociación Hermanos Martínez Abolafio, La Buena Huella, ASPERCAN, ADISLAN, and ADILAVA are the twelve organizations that have signed their commitment to sustainable mobility in the archipelago. The event took place at the headquarters of the Fundación Líneas Romero in Mácher, municipality of Tías.
With these new incorporations, the Sustainable Mobility Pact of the Canary Islands, promoted by the Ministry of Public Works, Housing, and Mobility through the General Directorate of Transport and Mobility, now exceeds 80 adhesions from entities and individuals. The initiative seeks to consolidate a more accessible, inclusive, and efficient mobility model, placing people at the center of public policies.
The Director General of Transport and Mobility, María Fernández, highlighted the importance of Lanzarote and La Graciosa in this Pact, emphasizing that each new adhesion demonstrates the shared need to advance towards a fundamental right such as sustainable mobility. She thanked the social and business fabric for their commitment to "rethinking connectivity under parameters of sustainability".
The Pact aims to consolidate mobility as a fundamental right, defend the future Canarian Law of Sustainable Mobility, guarantee permanent free public transport, and advocate for specific funding for the Canarian singularity.
Fernández stated that the Pact promotes fairer, more efficient, and environmentally friendly mobility, improving citizens' quality of life. She affirmed that the open and transversal project is generating consensus on one of the archipelago's major challenges.
She also recalled that the Government of the Canary Islands is progressing with the processing of the future Law of Sustainable Mobility of the Canary Islands, which will provide the archipelago with its own regulatory framework. The Pact represents society's commitment to accompany this path and position mobility as a right and a factor of social and territorial cohesion.
The adhesion process to the Sustainable Mobility Pact of the Canary Islands remains open through its official website, where the ten commitments guiding this alliance can be consulted. New signing events will be held across the archipelago in the coming month of October.
