The Local Democracy Week in Gáldar will commence with the VIII edition of the Neighborhood Recognition Ceremony on Friday, October 2nd, at 7:30 PM in the Guaires Cultural Center. At this event, 21 individuals from different neighborhoods will be honored for their altruistic contributions and work.
The program will continue with three training sessions from the Citizenship School. The first workshop, aimed at local associations and entities, is titled "Create, Design, and Communicate: The Power of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Your Association." It will be held on Thursdays, October 8th and 15th, at the Casa de la Juventud (Youth House), from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, showcasing AI as a tool for daily management.
During the second half of October, two more training activities will take place for secondary education centers: IES Agáldar and IES Roque Amagro. The activity "Know Your City Hall" is designed for 3rd-year ESO students to discover local administration and municipal government operations firsthand, facilitated by the Tagoror Ajei Educational and Social Association.
As a new addition this year, the workshop "Values Mural" is incorporated, targeting 4th-year ESO students to encourage reflection on the quality of democracy and the importance of citizen engagement. This workshop will be led by the Democracy 21st Century Association.
The program will conclude on Saturday, November 7th, with the X Meeting of Associations "Together We Advance", held in and around Plaza de Santiago, involving approximately 47 associations and citizen entities. The main goal is to better inform about local government functioning, strengthen the municipal associative fabric, and actively promote citizen participation in daily life.
The activities are financed by the Presidency Department of the Cabildo of Gran Canaria, through a subsidy for projects that promote citizen coexistence in 2026.
