The municipal plenary of Santa Lucía de Tirajana, held this Thursday in the assembly hall of the Municipal Offices due to works at the Consistorial Houses, unanimously approved an institutional motion to express the solidarity and support of the population of Santa Lucía de Tirajana for that of Ceuta, following events that occurred from July 30, 2026. The text, which merged proposals from the government and the PP-AV, will be sent to the Presidency of the Autonomous City of Ceuta and its Assembly's political groups.
During the session, Sara del Carmen Santana Santana was also unanimously appointed as Substitute Justice of the Peace for the municipal term.
In urban planning matters, the "Minor Modification nº10 of the General Plan for Land Management of Santa Lucía de Tirajana" in the area of developable land sectors SUSNO 12, 13, 14, and 15 was unanimously given initial approval. As reported by Mayor Francisco García, this modification will allow for an increase in the number of homes in Casas Pastores, the incorporation of a new road, improvements to existing roads, and an increase in sidewalk size, adding a total of 193 additional homes.
The proposal by Agrupación de Vecinos-Partido Popular to study the feasibility of opening the underground car park of Parque de La Libertad to the public received support from all groups except La Fortaleza, which abstained. The mayor indicated that the City Council might join the company Sagulpa, which would involve the subrogation of personnel currently working in the municipality's blue zones.
The plenary rejected a motion by the Vox Municipal Group defending Spanish and Canary Islands sovereignty against Morocco's territorial claims, which only received votes from Vox, PP councilors, and a councilor from Unidos por Gran Canaria.
Furthermore, a motion by La Fortaleza to promote measures for the improvement of the “Children's City” was unanimously approved. However, the majority of the plenary rejected another motion from the same group for the protection and enhancement of the Barranco de Tirajana.
A motion by Nueva Canarias councilors requesting improvements to public street lighting and reinforcement of pedestrian and road safety in Santa Lucía de Tirajana was also rejected by the plenary.
Mayor Francisco García had to leave the plenary to monitor a fire that broke out mid-morning in El Ingenio de Santa Lucía, and was replaced during the questions and requests segment by the First Deputy Mayor Julio Ojeda.
