The Minister of Economic Development of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, Minerva Alonso, visited the facilities this Friday after the completion of the work. The intervention aims to improve the functionality of the parking lot and facilitate access to the municipality's Open Commercial Zone.
Alonso highlighted that investment in Open Commercial Zones also involves improving surrounding spaces. "A modern, accessible, and well-connected parking lot facilitates the arrival of residents and visitors, improves mobility, and contributes to strengthening the commercial and economic activity of the municipality," she stated.
The project combines accessibility, sustainability, and functionality. A deteriorated infrastructure has been renovated, incorporating accessible parking spaces, electric vehicle charging points, and energy generation through photovoltaic pergolas.
The old pavement has been replaced with a safer and more resistant base of concrete and paving stones. The interior space has been reorganized, redistributing lanes, parking spots, and green areas, and correcting slopes to improve drainage.
The parking lot now has 41 spaces, including one adapted for people with reduced mobility and another for electric vehicle charging. The photovoltaic pergolas will generate energy for self-consumption, adding sustainability criteria.
The works have also improved pedestrian accessibility with a perimeter sidewalk and a corten steel cladding, integrating the infrastructure into the urban environment.
This action is part of a larger investment by the Cabildo de Gran Canaria in the Agaete Open Commercial Zone, which allocates 500,000 euros to two urban improvement projects. The second project includes a parking area for residents and the improvement of sanitation and rainwater networks in Las Nieves.
