The Council Chamber of the Casas Consistoriales of Gáldar hosted the civil welcoming ceremony for baby Gara. The event, led by councilwoman Ana Teresa Mendoza Jiménez, represents an institutional gesture of welcome based on the democratic values of freedom, equality, and respect.
The purpose of this civil welcoming is to publicly recognize the arrival of a child to the municipality, surrounded by their family, and to underscore society's commitment to their rights and well-being.
The celebration was part of the events organized around the International Day of Democracy, observed on September 15th. According to municipal regulations, these ceremonies can be held on four key dates throughout the year, linked to social justice, families, democracy, and childhood. Gáldar is one of the few municipalities on the island to have incorporated this initiative through a plenary agreement in 2009.
During the ceremony, Ana Teresa Mendoza Jiménez welcomed Gara in the presence of her mother, María Cathaisa Jiménez López, her father, Alejando Antonio Moreno Monzón, and her godmothers, María Edelmira and Beatriz. Excerpts from the Convention on the Rights of the Child and the Universal Declaration of the Rights of the Child were read. Subsequently, the parents signed the Municipal Charter of Citizenship for Children of the Royal City of Gáldar.
As a memento of this emotional occasion, the councilwoman presented the family with a seedling of the three-hundred-year-old Drago tree of Gáldar, symbolizing strength, shelter, and longevity.
