The day began with music and a special meal, which included fish and chicken salad. The event was attended by the mayor of Santa Lucía de Tirajana, Francisco García, and the Councilor for Promotion of Personal Autonomy, Minerva Pérez, who spoke with attendees.
Under this year's chosen theme, ‘No is no longer the answer’, the gathering aimed to strengthen the bond between users, their families, and the center's staff. Mayor Francisco García highlighted that Santa Lucía has been a pioneer in caring for people with this disease, noting that the center has existed since 2002 and provides significant relief for families.
Councilor Minerva Pérez explained that the center operates under an agreement with the Cabildo of Gran Canaria, through the Sociosanitary Institute. While the City Council manages daily operations, the Cabildo regulates access to the 25 available places.
The ‘Juan Alvarado’ Day Center for people with Alzheimer's, located in Sardina del Sur, was inaugurated on November 27, 2002.
