The Gáldar City Council has inaugurated the expansion of the Huertas del Rey Recreational Area, adding 3,000 square meters and creating the municipality's first dog park.

The municipality of Gáldar has taken another step in its outdoor leisure offerings with the inauguration of the second phase of the Huertas del Rey Recreational Area expansion. This project, which adds approximately 3,000 square meters to the space, is notable for the creation of the town's first dog park.
The intervention, which involved an investment of nearly 130,000 euros, has equipped the area with new walkways, barbecue zones, urban furniture, lighting, water access points, and significant new vegetation, including tree planting and improved garden areas. The goal is to enhance family outdoor leisure, creating shaded spaces and improving the visitor experience.
The new dog park, covering about 650 square meters, is specifically designed for animal welfare. It features an agility circuit for pets, adapted furniture for dogs' play and exercise, and a water fountain, making it a meeting point for pet owners.

"This action responds to a growing demand from citizens; more and more families live with pets, and we wanted Huertas del Rey to also be a place designed for them, fostering coexistence and respect for animals, who for all of us are another pillar of the family."

Teodoro Sosa · Mayor of Gáldar

"Huertas del Rey is a benchmark in the north of Gran Canaria, an outdoor enjoyment space with quality facilities that improve the lives of our residents and turn our public spaces into meeting and enjoyment points for the whole family."

Teodoro Sosa · Mayor of Gáldar

"With this expansion, the capacity of the Recreational Area is notably increased, incorporating new services and improving the natural environment of the site. We have worked to create a comfortable, safe, and attractive space for both families and those who enjoy outdoor activities with their pets."

Nicolás Mederos · Councillor for Parks and Gardens

"It is a day of celebration for the municipality, and it is a pride to officially inaugurate the first dog park, a historic demand that makes our town more advanced and promotes coexistence, respect, and civility."

Antonio María Benítez Melián · Councillor for Animal Welfare
The project was executed by the Urban Planning Department and funded 40% by the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, with the remainder from the City Council's own funds. This expansion follows a previous comprehensive renovation costing 300,000 euros.
