As part of the 544th Santiago de Gáldar Main Festivities, organized by the Culture and Festivities department, distinguished residents will be honored with the titles of 'Hijos Predilectos' (Distinguished Sons), 'Hijos Adoptivos' (Adopted Sons), Gold Medals, and Silver Medals. This event, one of the most emotional of the festive program, aims to recognize the contributions of outstanding citizens to the Royal City of Gáldar.
Among the 'Hijos Predilectos' are veterinarian Pascual Calabuig, traumatologist Arturo Montesdeoca, businessman José Oliva, doctor Antonio Ramos, and posthumously, the physician Martín Nicolás Molina. Also to be honored is José de la Cruz Mendoza Rivero, known as ‘Pepe Torres’, for his neighborhood leadership and promotion of the 'Fiesta de la Lana' in Caideros.
Recognized as 'Hijos Adoptivos' will be journalist Pino Araceli Rivero Gil, who served as head of the Gáldar City Council's Press Office for decades; ceramicist and sculptor Diego Higueras; writer and journalist Josefa Molina, ambassador of Gáldar's culture and founder of the 'Palabra y Verso' Writers Association; and doctors Manuel Antonio Ojeda and Nicolás Torres, both noted for their service to the Gáldar community.
Ten Gold Medals will be awarded to the Asociación Madres Solidarias for its social work with international impact; to local media outlets Infonorte Digital, Noroeste Televisión, and Nortevisión; to pharmacists Juan Antonio García and María del Carmen Ojeda for their commitment to public health; to dentist Amable Rodríguez, recognized for his prestige in the municipality; to José Luis Domínguez of Óptica Domínguez Romero for the company's legacy in citizen health; educator and conflict mediator Raúl Saavedra López; and posthumously to sportsman Zebensui Ramos González, player for Club de fútbol Las Palmas C.
Silver Medals will be presented to teacher Rosa María Rodríguez and volunteer Juan Francisco Mendoza, recognized for his assistance to migrants in El Hierro.
