The municipality of Santa María de Guía has completed the installation and acceptance of a self-consumption photovoltaic plant on the Town Hall's rooftop. This project's primary objective is for the municipality to advance in clean energy generation while simultaneously decreasing the expenditure allocated to the electrical consumption of municipal facilities.
The first deputy mayor and urban planning councilor, José Manuel Santana, oversaw the completion of the work and the installation's conditions. Santana emphasized that this initiative clearly demonstrates how sustainability and efficient economic management can and should go hand in hand.
According to Santana, the investment in solar panels is not merely about installing technology but about creating an infrastructure that will enable the City Council to produce a portion of the energy it consumes. This will allow for a progressive reduction in the electricity bill, freeing up public resources for other resident needs and showcasing management focused on both the present and the future.
The councilor also highlighted that the Town Hall itself will serve as an example of this commitment to energy efficiency. He stressed the importance for administrations to apply energy-efficient usage measures in their own buildings, setting a standard for society.
The total investment for this project amounts to 42,000 euros, funded by the Cabildo of Gran Canaria through the First Vice Presidency and Ministry of Public Works and Infrastructures, Architecture, and Housing. The company Ecomove S.L. was responsible for executing the project.
With the work concluded, the installation is ready to begin generating energy for the Town Hall's self-consumption. The project incorporates high-efficiency photovoltaic modules, each with a power of 475 W, optimally utilizing the available surface area on the building's roof to ensure adequate performance and durability.
The first deputy mayor explained that the investment will yield returns for the City Council, as each kilowatt produced for self-consumption will represent energy that does not need to be purchased, resulting in savings for the municipal treasury.
This initiative complements other measures being promoted by the Guía City Council to enhance the efficiency of its facilities and foster a more responsible use of public resources. Santana concluded that municipal management involves anticipating needs, seeking funding, seizing opportunities, and executing projects that lead to savings, such as this installation that improves services and reduces structural expenses.
