Santiago Square in Gáldar was the epicenter of one of the most popular activities in the Gáldar Pride 2026 program. The traditional Heel Race gathered participants and spectators on a morning marked by good weather, music, and a festive atmosphere that attracted numerous people.
This event, already recognized within the celebration, combined sport, humor, and spectacle. The sole requirement for participation was to complete all challenges without removing the heels, testing the participants' skill and balance.
Contestants faced a course designed to test their dexterity, overcoming obstacles such as trampoline jumps, climbing a wooden wall, tricycle rides, and aiming exercises. The highlight was the final race, where they demonstrated the technique and coordination needed to run in heels.
Falls, balancing acts, and unexpected situations generated much laughter among the audience, who constantly supported the competitors with applause.
The event saw a high attendance, filling Santiago Square with residents and visitors who enjoyed a morning filled with constant music and entertainment. Winners received prizes, but the most visible recognition was the support from the attendees.
The Heel Race is part of a broader program of cultural, festive, and community-building activities for various audiences.
Following this event, Gáldar Pride continued with the Grand Parade and Mogollón on Saturday, and on Sunday with the Day Pride and the Arkoiris Awards ceremony.
The organization highlighted the implementation of actions to promote safe and inclusive spaces, with Violet Points at the La Quinta Cultural Venue. These points offer information, assistance, and support for potential situations of sexist violence or discrimination, activating protocols and coordinating with Security Forces.
To facilitate mobility, the Gáldar City Council reinforced the service of Global bus lines 105 and 401, connecting the urban center with Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and Sardina del Norte.
The Gáldar Pride 2026 is organized by the Gáldar City Council through the Department of Culture and Festivals, with the collaboration of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, establishing itself as a significant event combining leisure with awareness-raising and community promotion.
