This upgrade aims to make the venue more accessible, inclusive, and functional for all residents. The inauguration ceremony was attended by local officials and association members.
The elevator installation was made possible by a 30,000 euro grant from the Gran Canaria Cabildo, through its Presidency and Sustainable Mobility Department. The Moya City Council managed the project's administrative and technical aspects.
Furthermore, the renovation of the restrooms involved an investment of 19,400 euros. This work was partially funded by a 10,000 euro grant from the Vice Presidency of the Government of the Canary Islands, a 2,000 euro contribution from the municipality, with the remaining costs covered by the Neighbors Association through donations and local fundraising.
“"This project demonstrates that when administrations and residents work hand in hand, results that improve people's lives are achieved. Today, Carretería has a more accessible, modern, and inclusive social center, ready for any neighbor to enjoy it on equal terms."
Mayor Raúl Afonso praised the collaboration between authorities and residents, highlighting the efforts of the Tilama Neighbors Association and acknowledging the contribution of all entities involved in the project's success.
The association has also secured a 19,500 euro grant from the Vice Presidency of the Government of the Canary Islands for a comprehensive upgrade of the building's electrical system, ensuring safer and more efficient facilities.
These improvements solidify the Carretería social center's role as a vital hub for the social life and community engagement in the neighborhood.
