The municipality of Hermigua hosted a social gathering for the AlGolpito program, an initiative that uses walking football to promote active aging across the Canary Islands.

The event featured teams from La Gomera and Day Centers for the Elderly in Santa Cruz II, Los Realejos, and Guía de Isora. This activity is part of the Maresía Plan, a project promoted by the Government of the Canary Islands to combat unwanted loneliness and improve the quality of life for seniors.
The initiative is a collaboration between the Department of Social Welfare and the foundations of CD Tenerife and UD Las Palmas. With this meeting, the program has successfully expanded its reach to all islands in the archipelago, consolidating an adapted sports modality that seeks to encourage socialization and healthy habits.
The project is coordinated through the General Directorate for the Elderly and Active Participation, involving 24 senior centers under the regional government. The main goal is to leverage the potential of football to transform public perception of the aging process and strengthen intergenerational solidarity.
