The Department of Social Rights, Social Welfare, and Personal Dignity of the Cabildo of El Hierro has awarded a grant of 15,000 euros to the Piñera Association of Seniors. This aid is intended to cover operational expenses and ensure the continuity of its activity program throughout 2026.
This funding is part of the budget allocated by the Cabildo of El Hierro, included in its 2026-2028 Strategic Subsidy Plan, and aims to support and develop the initiatives of senior associations on the island.
The primary objective of this aid is to strengthen a space for participation, coexistence, and meeting for the elderly residents of El Hierro, while also working to prevent situations of isolation. The initiative promotes active, healthy, and community-integrated aging, offering activities focused on physical, emotional, and cognitive well-being.
Among the association's proposals are cognitive stimulation workshops, talks, maintenance gymnastics, and aquagym sessions. Additionally, the program includes social gatherings, cultural excursions, and intergenerational encounters, designed to foster the exchange of experiences and knowledge between different generations.
A key aspect of the collective is its commitment to preserving and transmitting the collective memory and cultural heritage of El Hierro. To this end, the Piñera Association of Seniors actively collaborates with the island's educational centers, facilitating the transfer of traditions, experiences, and values linked to the Herreño identity to new generations.
The subsidized program also incorporates technological training workshops aimed at improving the digital skills of older adults. These activities seek to reduce the digital divide, facilitate communication with family members, and enhance participants' autonomy in their daily interactions and tasks.
Thanks to this grant of 15,000 euros, the Piñera Association of Seniors will be able to maintain in 2026 a diverse program that covers active aging, social participation, the overall well-being of seniors, and the preservation of the memory and traditions of El Hierro.
