These plans, aimed at renovating existing public spaces and establishments, seek to improve and update the archipelago's tourist areas. The initiative, driven by the Ministry of Territorial Policy, Territorial Cohesion, and Water, is part of the Law 2/2013 on Tourist Renewal.
The regional minister, Manuel Miranda, highlighted that the PMMs are "urban planning instruments that complement current regulations" and described these documents as "very useful tools for the progressive updating of tourist areas." He emphasized the "shared commitment with the participating administrations," including city councils, island councils, and the Government of the Canary Islands itself.
The second PMM for Puerto de la Cruz will continue the ongoing plan, with the collaboration of the Cabildo of Tenerife in its formulation and processing. The island corporation will cover the costs, including preliminary studies and the design of impact indicators.
In Lanzarote, modernization plans will be promoted in Costa Teguise and Playa Blanca through a similar collaboration model with the Island Council, aiming to renovate and improve these destinations.
Manuel Miranda recalled that the Government is processing similar plans in other locations such as Playa de Mogán, El Veril, and San Bartolomé (Gran Canaria), Puerto del Carmen (Lanzarote), and Los Cancajos (La Palma). The ultimate goal is to "continue promoting the urban updating of the Canary Islands, key to ensuring quality and balance in territorial development."
