The Teguise Town Hall is experiencing a new political crisis, the third in 2026, centered on the management of the Technical Office and the accumulation of approximately 5,000 pending files, which could lead to changes in the distribution of competencies.

The current situation in Teguise's local government, formed by Coalición Canaria (CC) and Partido Popular (PP) with the support of a former Vox councilor, has become tense. The mayor, a representative of CC, is evaluating a restructuring of government areas, which would imply her party taking over urban planning responsibilities, currently held by the PP.
This potential modification arises from a disagreement between the mayor and the PP representative regarding the origin of the backlog of files in the Technical Office. While the mayor seeks solutions, the PP representative attributes the problem to previous periods and questions municipal staff.

"Unfortunately, [the confrontations] are affecting the functioning of the municipality."

Adding to the problem is the inability to finalize an agreement with the public company Gesplan, designed to streamline file management. The municipal intervention has raised objections to the agreement, preventing its effective implementation to date.
The mayor has expressed confidence that, with appropriate measures, a large portion of the pending files, approximately three-quarters, could be resolved. However, a change in the local government structure seems complicated, as opposition parties – the Spanish Socialist Workers' Party (PSOE), Primero Teguise (PT), and Nueva Canarias (NC) – have expressed critical views.

"We are witnessing public confirmation that the pact is broken from within."

The current crisis is not an isolated event. In early February, a PP councilor announced his move to the mixed group, although he later retracted. Weeks later, a member of the mixed group, who was Vox's lead candidate in 2023, also expressed his willingness to cause a rupture, citing an imbalance in the distribution of functions. The municipal government has 11 councilors, compared to 10 in the opposition.
