The Haría City Council has welcomed representatives of the municipality's artisan collective who will be honored as ‘Tourism Distinguished’ next Monday, September 28. This distinction, promoted by the Council itself, recognizes their trajectory and contribution to the conservation of Haría's cultural heritage.
The award, granted by Turismo Lanzarote, honors those who, for over 25 years, have established the municipality's artisan market as a meeting point for various crafts and expressions linked to the island's traditions.
The mayor of Haría, Alfredo Villalba, stated, “This recognition belongs to all those who have dedicated years of their lives to preserving knowledge that is part of our history. Behind every creation lies effort, learning, and a deep respect for roots that Haría has kept alive.”
Villalba also expressed the City Council's satisfaction with the culmination of this initiative: “Our artisans have built, with constancy and dedication, a unique space that is now part of the municipality's identity and allows visitors to experience Haría through its culture and traditions.”
For her part, the Councilor for Crafts, Nuria Acuña, shared her pride in leading this area in a municipality considered the cradle of craftsmanship in Lanzarote, especially after promoting a candidacy that has now been distinguished.
Acuña emphasized, “This award represents men and women who continue to work to ensure our traditional crafts do not disappear. It is they who, with their hands and knowledge, have managed to pass on this legacy and keep it present in the daily life of the municipality.”
During the reception, collective representatives thanked the municipal initiative and recalled the journey since the market's inception. Over two decades of activity have brought together works in jewelry, ceramics, textiles, fabric decoration, natural dyes, recycling, and other disciplines, forming a space characterized by the diversity and deep-rootedness of its offerings.
The meeting also served to remember the efforts of those who have sustained this activity, making the market a reference point for understanding techniques and knowledge from Haría's collective memory.
Craftsmanship in Haría thus becomes a way of telling the story of the territory, showing residents and visitors a way of understanding the island linked to its materials, customs, and knowledge passed down through generations.
