The Teguise City Council, through its Culture department, has prepared a series of events to commemorate Los Finaos 2026, a Canarian tradition linked to remembering the deceased. The celebrations will take place on Saturday, October 31st, in both La Villa de Teguise and La Graciosa, aiming to bring this custom closer to all generations.
The mayor of Teguise, Olivia Duque, highlighted the importance of Los Finaos as part of their history and inherited traditions, emphasizing the need for new generations to learn about and experience these dates as a family, strengthening the connection with Canarian roots and identity.
For his part, the Councilor for Culture, Andoni Machín, pointed out that the program combines music, theater, and workshops for participation across all ages, stating that the best way to preserve traditions is by sharing and passing them on.
In La Villa de Teguise, activities will begin at 6:00 PM in the Plaza Maciot de Bethencourt with a family workshop on making dried fruit baskets. At 7:00 PM, the parranda group El Golpito will perform in the Open Commercial Zone, bringing Canarian folk music to the streets. The day will conclude at 8:00 PM with the theatrical performance “Finaos siglo XIX” by the company Actúa7, which will tour the streets of the Historic Site.
In La Graciosa, activities will take place from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Inocencia Páez Sociocultural Center, including a storytelling session about the Los Finaos tradition and a children's workshop on decorating chestnuts.
