Repair works on a mountain road in Gran Canaria following storm damage.

The Gran Canaria Cabildo will open a temporary passage this Saturday on the La Culata road (GC-608) in Tejeda, restoring access for residents after two months of repair works.

The intervention, managed by the Department of Public Works, will allow traffic through a single lane regulated by traffic lights. This measure aims to restore connection to the neighborhood, which had been isolated since March 21 due to a landslide caused by storm Therese, which destroyed the road's retaining wall.
During the isolation period, island services enabled an alternative passage through a private property to facilitate resident mobility. Emergency works have included the construction of a new reinforced concrete wall 7.5 meters high and 20 meters long, using nearly 450 cubic meters of concrete to ensure ground stability.
Additionally, the island institution has announced the temporary opening of the GC-210, connecting La Aldea and Artenara, operational from this Friday until next Monday. This road also suffered significant structural damage from rockfalls near Acusa and Parralillo.
In the coming weeks, the Cabildo will focus on improving drainage systems in the La Culata area. Plans include installing higher-capacity drains and reinforcing old walls with metal anchors to prevent future incidents during heavy rainfall.
