Hundreds of demonstrators gathered at the pier of La Aldea de San Nicolás to express their strong rejection of the project to install marine farms on the municipality's coast.

The mobilization, called by Greenpeace and supported by environmental groups and local residents, brought together approximately 1,000 people, according to organizers' estimates. The day was marked by banners and slogans such as "La Aldea with artisanal fishing", "Contaminated beaches, no cages", and "Chernes yes, sea bass no", highlighting concerns about the impact on traditional fishing and the environment.
The project in question, promoted by the company Gran Canaria Bass Company SL, has majority funding (90%) from the United Arab Emirates. The initiative involves the installation of 24 marine cages over an area of more than 470,000 square meters off the coast near Andén Verde. The goal is to achieve an annual production of up to 5,400 tons of sea bass.
