The City Council of La Aldea de San Nicolás, through its Department of Education led by Miguel Ulises Afonso, is reinforcing the promotion of local musical activity by purchasing instruments and accessories for municipal collectives and groups. This initiative was made possible by a grant of 4,000 euros awarded by the Department of Education and Youth of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, intended for the acquisition of inventoryable musical instruments and accessories for the year 2026.
The beneficiaries of this aid are the Asociación Cultural y Musical Pasión de La Aldea, the Asociación Cultural y Musical Aires de La Aldea, and the parish choir. These collectives play a highly significant cultural and musical role in the municipality, enriching the programming and social life of La Aldea de San Nicolás.
The Councilor for Education, Miguel Ulises Afonso, highlighted education as a "fundamental instrument for transmitting values, fostering autonomous thinking, and developing capacities such as creativity, imagination, innovation, responsibility, and critical sense." He stated that, despite the municipality not currently having municipal music schools, the City Council supports the initiatives of local groups by providing resources.
For his part, the Councilor for Culture, Víctor Juan Hernández, praised the "important work carried out by the musical and cultural groups in our municipality, not only from an artistic perspective but also as spaces for participation, coexistence, and the transmission of our culture." He added that supporting these collectives contributes to ensuring that music remains a part of life in La Aldea and offers citizens a diverse and accessible cultural offering.
Through this action, the City Council of La Aldea de San Nicolás reaffirms its commitment to education and culture as fundamental pillars for the socio-educational development of the municipality, supporting the work of local collectives and creating opportunities for citizen participation, creativity, and the transmission of values through music.
