Damaged electric vehicle charging point due to vandalism in Fuerteventura.

Two electric vehicle charging points in Fuerteventura, located in El Cotillo and Morro Jable, have been targeted by vandalism, rendering the facilities unusable and causing significant economic damage.

The Department of Industry of the Cabildo of Fuerteventura has reported recent acts of vandalism against electric vehicle charging points on the island. These incidents have caused considerable damage to public infrastructure, impacting the service provided to citizens.
In El Cotillo, municipality of La Oliva, a 50-kilowatt fast charging point was completely disabled following a deliberate fire. This incident is compounded by another that occurred in Morro Jable, in the municipality of Pájara, where another charger was severely damaged by a vehicle impact.
Both charging points are currently out of service while the necessary repairs or replacements are processed. This situation creates inconvenience for electric vehicle users and represents a significant financial burden on public funds.

"These acts harm all citizens, as they affect public infrastructure intended to facilitate sustainable mobility and improve the services available in Fuerteventura."

Lolina Negrín · Minister of Industry and Classified Activities of the Cabildo of Fuerteventura
The estimated cost to repair or replace the damaged facilities is around 100,000 euros. This amount will need to be diverted from other budget items to cover these actions. These acts follow other recent vandalism incidents against newly acquired public buses on the island.
