For the third consecutive year, the Boreal International Festival extends its program to the neighborhood of Imada, in the municipality of Alajeró, aiming to bring music, culture, and diversity to other locations in the Canary Islands. This year, the Alajeró City Council is leveraging the festival to organize the AGRO-ARTE IMADA Festival, a proposal that combines music with local gastronomy, highlighting the unique products of La Gomera and supporting the region's primary sector.
The event features an EcoFeria, craft workshops, local product tastings, and music by local artists. It is held in Imada to consolidate the potential of rural areas, promoting quality of life and sustainability. The initiative is co-financed by the Dinamiza Rural Strategy, promoted by the Government of the Canary Islands and FECAM, which aims to strengthen the economic and social development of municipalities with fewer than 10,000 inhabitants, supporting the primary sector, local consumption, and sustainable tourism.
Dinamiza Rural, in collaboration with GMR Canarias, aims to revalue zero-kilometer products, generate employment, retain population in rural areas, and preserve cultural identity. GMR Canarias CEO, Juan Antonio Alonso, emphasized that the strategy seeks to enable rural municipalities to grow sustainably, creating jobs and strengthening the marketing of local products.
On Sunday, October 4th, from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM, the Plaza de Santa Ana in Imada will host traditional craft workshops such as basket weaving (Heraclio Arzola Hernández), palm and ristra weaving (Dolores Padrón Herrera), organic beekeeping (José Miguel Arzola Santos and Mathias Rapp), and demonstrations of pottery (Alfarería Arerú) and the shepherd's leap (La Jurria Tamonerque).
Concurrently, the EcoFeria will feature local artisans and producers, offering tastings to showcase the island's rich gastronomy. Starting at 1:00 PM, music will take center stage with performances by Lula Mora, a singer-songwriter duo with indie and folk influences; La Rebelión de LOS GOMEROS FOLK, a traditional and Canarian fusion music group; and ARIFE, an artistic project blending ancestral Canarian and Amazigh rhythms.
The event is organized by the Alajeró City Council and the 'Agüita de Toronjil' Sociocultural Association for Art and Well-being.
