During an ordinary plenary session held on Thursday, May 7, the San Sebastián de La Gomera City Council officially approved the naming of the patios within the San Antonio Municipal Cemetery. The decision aims to maintain uniformity between the older sections and new expansions, primarily using the names of apostles.
“"All patios will bear the names of apostles, except for number 7, as that space will feature a plaque in memory of those who died as a result of the fire on September 11, 1984."
The measure, as explained by the municipal leadership, is crucial for the reorganization and structuring of the cemetery. This will facilitate the location of graves, streamline administrative management, and ultimately enhance services provided to citizens.
The patios have been named as follows: patio 1 as San Juan, patio 2 as San Mateo, patio 3 as San Marcos, patio 4 as Santo Tomás, patio 5 as San Andrés, and patio 6 as San Pedro. Patios 8, 9, and 10 will be named San Felipe, San Simón, and San Bartolomé, respectively. Patios 11 and 12, located on either side of the municipal cemetery chapel, have been designated as Santiago Menor and Santiago Mayor.
Additionally, the plenary session unanimously approved adherence to the Institutional Declaration in Defense of the Public Nature of Radio Televisión Canaria (RTVC). This declaration emphasizes RTVC's importance as an essential pillar for the social, territorial, and cultural cohesion of the archipelago, guaranteeing citizens' right to truthful and plural information, and strengthening democratic values and collective Canarian identity.
Finally, the initial approval of a good governance and police ordinance was voted on. This regulation will govern parking at the Audillón and other rotating parking areas with time limits within San Sebastián de La Gomera.
