The Ministry of Employment and Local Development, headed by Juan Díaz, has approved funding for the third edition of this employment plan. The initiative aims to train and employ individuals from groups facing insertion difficulties, while simultaneously cleaning dozens of hectares of rural land, particularly in the municipalities of Ingenio, Agüimes, and Santa Lucía de Tirajana, near Gran Canaria airport.
This project is part of the cooperation agreement between the Canarian Employment Service and the Cabildo Insular de Gran Canaria for implementing active employment policies on the island. The objective is twofold: to enhance the employability of local residents and to revitalize an area that currently presents a degraded image, considered an entry point to the island.
The initiative, approved urgently in the May plenary session, will enable the hiring of 65 unemployed individuals. Requirements include being registered as job seekers, residing in the municipalities of the Mancomunidad del Sureste or adjacent areas, and belonging to groups with insertion difficulties. Priority will be given to individuals at risk of social exclusion, with at least 60% of hires (39 people) allocated to this group.
In its previous two editions, the plan hired 83 unemployed individuals on six-month contracts. During their participation, the workers received complementary training in risk prevention, industrial waste management, food handling, and phytosanitary product handling.
