The General Directorate of Blood Donation and Hemotherapy of the Canary Islands Health Service (SCS) has initiated a new blood donation campaign in the Gran Canarian municipality of Ingenio. Two temporary collection points have been set up to bring donation closer to citizens and facilitate their participation.
One mobile unit will be located in the Plaza de la Candelaria. Today and tomorrow, it will serve donors from 10:00 to 13:30 and from 17:00 to 20:30. On Wednesday, the hours will be from 17:00 to 20:30.
The second mobile unit will be at Avenida Carlos V, next to the citizen attention office. It will be operational from today until Wednesday from 10:00 to 13:30 and from 17:00 to 20:30. On Thursday and Friday, the hours will be from 17:00 to 20:30.
The General Directorate reminds the public of the importance of donating blood periodically, at least twice a year, especially during the summer months when donations tend to decrease. Maintaining adequate reserves is crucial to ensure the supply of blood components to public and private hospitals in the archipelago and to meet patients' transfusion needs.
Regarding fixed collection points, the headquarters at Calle Alfonso XIII, in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, is open Monday to Friday from 9:15 to 20:30 (except holidays). The fixed point in Santa Lucía de Tirajana, located in the annex of the Vecindario Health Center, is open Monday and Tuesday from 10:15 to 13:15 and from 17:15 to 20:15; Wednesday from 17:15 to 20:15; and Thursday and Friday from 10:15 to 13:15.
Other fixed points within the hospital network, without prior appointment, include the Insular Hospital (Monday to Friday, 10:30 to 19:30), the Maternal and Child Hospital (Monday to Friday, 10:30 to 14:00), and the Gran Canaria Doctor Negrín University Hospital (Monday to Friday, 8:30 to 19:30).
At Hospiten Roca San Agustín, donations can be made by appointment by calling 928 301 012 (option 8), on Fridays from 8:00 to 14:00 (except holidays).
Basic requirements to donate blood include: being between eighteen and 65 years old (up to sixty for a first-time donation), weighing over fifty kilograms, being in good general health, and not being pregnant.
