The Mancomunidad del Sureste has taken a key step towards establishing its own Energy Agency, an entity set to lead the energy transition in the region until 2029.

This new organization, which will be established as a private association, will primarily aim to foster energy efficiency, renewable energies, sustainable mobility, and decarbonization. It will also provide technical advice and training to administrations, companies, and citizens.
The project is part of the European initiative 4Eneragencies, funded by the European Union's LIFE program, and is scheduled to operate until September 2029. Its functions will include outreach, best practice exchange, and support in developing strategic energy plans.
Federico Noval, an industrial engineer for the Mancomunidad, described the initial meeting as a fundamental starting point for the entity, highlighting the opportunity to bring the energy transition closer to the local level and align the region with other European territories that have similar established agencies.
The agency is now seeking to expand its network of collaborating entities to form its initial core. Future partners will be able to influence the local energy agenda, gain preferential access to projects and funding opportunities, and enhance their positioning in sustainability.
An estimated annual budget of 139,000 euros is allocated for office setup and specialized technical staff. The initiative is supported by the Energy Council of Gran Canaria and the consultancy firm Escan.
