The 35th edition of the Meeting of Solidarity with the Peoples of Africa and Latin America (Espal) began this Friday in Santa Lucía de Tirajana, establishing itself as a benchmark for social reflection, culture, and international commitment. The event will run until April 18, offering an extensive agenda of activities.
Under the motto 'From the river to the sea', Espal 2026 focuses on human rights, social justice, and solidarity among different communities. The inaugural day, held at the Víctor Jara Theater, featured a multicultural showcase with dances and cuisine from various parts of the world. The photographic exhibition 'To tell my story' was also opened, and the show 'Yo te quiero libre. Canción, décima y memoria' was performed, with the participation of several artists.
Over the next few days, the program will include theatrical performances, social cinema screenings, exhibitions, debates, and educational activities aimed at all audiences. Among the most notable proposals are the start of the International Human Rights Forum, discussion panels on the situation in Palestine and communication, as well as days dedicated to historical memory and the challenges of migration.
The closing of Espal 2026 will take place on Saturday, April 18, with a large participatory street event, which will include a solidarity book fair, family workshops, music, dance, improvised rap, and international concerts, thus concluding an event dedicated to cultural exchange and social awareness.
