The Santa Lucía de Tirajana City Council has launched the guide ‘Opening Paths. Educating in Sexualities and Preventing Child Sexual Violence’, a tool for professionals and families to address child sexuality and detect potential abuse.

The publication, presented on June 24, 2026, aims to provide educational resources for addressing child sexuality from a preventive perspective. It is aimed at teachers and professionals who interact with children aged 6 to 12 in educational, social, health, and community settings.
The guide will be distributed in the municipality's schools starting in September and will also be accessible to families via a QR code. The municipal government thus seeks to offer support in preventing situations of sexual violence against minors.

"The only way to prevent is to educate so they know if they are being abused."

Isabel Mena · Minister of Social Policy, Accessibility, Equality, and Diversity of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria
The initiative is supported by the Cabildo de Gran Canaria. Minister Isabel Mena highlighted the importance of school-based sex education as a prevention method, while the Councilor for Equality and Diversity of the City Council, Olga Cáceres, emphasized the need to equip parents with tools to recognize signs of abuse in their children.
The guide, with texts by Ana Laura Suárez and graphic design by Abenchara Montesinos, adopts an approach based on listening, learning, and autonomy, avoiding fear. It uses the concept of a key and lock as a symbol of opening safe spaces and providing support, integrating into the municipal actions for prevention.
