The Ingenio City Council has prepared a special program for European Mobility Week 2026, featuring educational activities, a cycling tour, and the presentation of Metrominutos.

With the aim of promoting more sustainable, safe, and accessible travel, the Ingenio City Council has prepared a special program for European Mobility Week 2026. The activities, driven by the Department of Mobility and Transport, are taking place from September 14 to October 2, with proposals aimed at both the educational community and the general public.
The mayor of Ingenio, Vanesa Martín, highlighted the importance of addressing mobility from a perspective that goes beyond infrastructure itself. «We are starting the ‘Ingenio Moves’ program for European Mobility Week. Working on mobility, improving safety, is not just about doing it in our streets, but also through education, through training,» she stated.
The Councilor for Mobility and Transport, Óliver Navarro, emphasized that the program aims to demystify the idea that «we can only go by car everywhere we need to go». The initiative includes training in schools, cycling tours, and a round table discussion.
The project ‘Cole en Ruta: Ingenio en Bici’ (School on the Road: Ingenio by Bike) will be developed in all Infant and Primary Education centers in the municipality until October 2, seeking to introduce cycling to students not only as a sport or recreational activity but also as a real alternative for daily, sustainable, healthy, and public space-respecting mobility.
On Tuesday, September 22, coinciding with World Car-Free Day, a cycling tour will take place, open to the public, along the circular route between Avenida Carlos V, Camino de La Florida, and Calle Mijail Gorbachov.
On Wednesday, September 23, the Metrominutos of Ingenio and El Carrizal will be presented. This tool, developed by the Walking Cities Network, represents on a pedestrian map the main facilities of the municipality and the approximate time needed to walk between them, thus encouraging walking.
Also on Wednesday, September 23, at 7:00 PM, the Casa de Postas de Ingenio will host the round table discussion ‘Streets for People: Pedestrian, Cycling, and Micromobility’, a space for dialogue on the challenges and opportunities presented by these modes of transport.

"I think it's important to highlight the idea that walking and cycling are completely valid forms of transport, just like cars, so that's what we'll be working on in the municipality these weeks."
