The latest results, issued by the Gran Canaria Public Health Laboratory on Thursday, May 7, 2026, show E. Coli values below 1 CFU/100 ml and absence of enterococci, which allowed the temporary swimming restriction to be revoked.
The prohibition measure had been implemented after a possible incident was detected in the sanitation system of the beach's hygienic services. An obstruction in the network was observed and considered the probable cause of a short-duration contamination episode.
The Ingenio City Council acted immediately to resolve the situation and proceeded with the preventive closure of the restrooms. Although the obstruction was minimal and did not cause overflows, and after verifying the network's watertightness, municipal technical staff have also considered the possibility that the incident was due to a specific act of incivility, rather than a malfunction of municipal services.
Although the swimming ban has been lifted, health authorities have recommended keeping the beach's hygienic services closed to the public as a risk management measure. In accordance with the Canary Islands Bathing Water Sanitary Surveillance Program, a new replacement sample will be taken within the next seven days.
