The town of Agüimes became the festive heart of the Canary Islands this Friday the 29th, hosting the Gran Verbenazo organized by Noveleros. The event, commemorating 500 episodes of the popular Televisión Canaria format, exceeded all expectations by gathering more than 5,000 people in the area behind the Auditorio de Agüimes.
"We are happy and surprised by the reception this gathering with the public has had," stated Santi Gutiérrez, creator and executive producer of Noveleros, suggesting that this success could lead to the Verbenazo becoming a recurring celebration of Canarian identity.
From hours before the start, the anticipation was palpable. Groups of fans, friends, and neighbors from across the island gathered in a festive atmosphere that championed Canarian popular culture and successfully united different generations in a single celebration.
The evening was hosted by Edu Yanes, director of the program's early stages, and served as a tribute to the more than fifty individuals who have been part of the Noveleros team throughout its 500 episodes.
The festivities kicked off with a vibrant performance by Kilombo Improvisado, who ignited the atmosphere with their energy and audience engagement. Following them, El Combo Dominicano electrified attendees with their tropical rhythms, reaffirming their strong connection with the archipelago's public.
As a surprise, the Banda de Agaete and the papagüevos got the crowd dancing the traditional 'rama'. The night culminated with a performance by Nueva Línea, whose music had thousands dancing in unison, solidifying the evening as an anthem to Canarian identity.
The event stood out for its ability to merge television, music, and popular sentiment, celebrating not just a milestone number but the way Noveleros has told the stories of the Canary Islands over the years.
Santi Gutiérrez also highlighted the program's excellent current standing, experiencing its best season with historic audience ratings and a cohesive team, connecting with various generations through relatable and positive stories.
The organization, supported by Global's line 22, facilitated attendee mobility. The event, organized by Suelta el Mando in collaboration with the Agüimes City Council, Gran Canaria Island Council, and Radio Televisión Canaria, was part of Agüimes' cultural programming for Día de Canarias.
The celebration demonstrated the power of Canarian popular culture to unite people, leaving an unforgettable night that reaffirmed Noveleros' place in the hearts of the Canarian audience.
