The PSOE of Ingenio has expressed its dissatisfaction with the municipal government's decision not to host the Island Book Fair, an event that will ultimately take place in Agüimes.

Socialists believe this refusal represents a missed opportunity for the cultural, educational, and economic development of the municipality. The fair, organized by the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, is a well-established event attracting publishers, bookstores, authors, and readers.
According to the PSOE, hosting the fair in Ingenio would have promoted reading, strengthened the municipality's cultural profile, and generated a positive impact on local commerce and the town's external image.

The PSOE attributes the loss of the event to the “lack of management, planning, and ambition” of the current governing group.

The party frames this decision within a period it describes as cultural regression, linking it also to the loss of subsidies and strategic investments for the municipality. The PSOE has announced it will request explanations from the local government regarding the reasons for discarding the fair.
Furthermore, they do not rule out promoting initiatives in the municipal plenary session to clarify what happened and assign political responsibilities. The party will even consider requesting the resignation of the Culture Councilor, Sebastián Suárez, or demanding his dismissal by the mayor.
