The Casa del Mato Cultural Association, in collaboration with the Department of Festivities and Events of the San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council, bestowed this distinction at an event held during the festivities in honor of the Holy Trinity of El Tablero 2026. The association's president, Francisco Hernández, presented the staff, while another member of the organization pinned the commemorative badge.
The honoree was accompanied by his family and municipal representatives, including the first deputy mayor of the San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council, Alejandro Marichal, and the Councilor for Festivities and Events, Yilenia Vega. The latter presented him with a commemorative plaque, emphasizing his lifelong work in favor of the residents, sports, and festivities of El Tablero.
“"This recognition not only rewards a career but also the affection and gratitude of an entire town towards someone who has always been there when needed."
For his part, the first deputy mayor congratulated the Romero de Honor 2026, highlighting his silent commitment, selfless dedication, and his way of understanding the town through closeness and respect. He stressed that some people leave a deep mark by dedicating their lives to uniting people, keeping traditions alive, and building community.
The decision to grant this recognition was unanimously approved at the association's ordinary general assembly, held on March 10. His constant involvement in community life and his ability to connect different generations through social and sporting initiatives were highly valued.
Among the merits highlighted is his role as a promoter of indoor football in El Tablero, fostering values such as camaraderie and integration among young people. His work in organizing summer sports tournaments that brought together hundreds of residents was also recognized. Furthermore, he actively participated for nine years in organizing the town's festivities and presided over the Garajonay neighborhood association for fifteen years, focusing on listening and improving residents' quality of life.
