The Santa Lucía de Tirajana City Council has presented a new Citizen Participation Regulation, designed to encourage greater neighborhood involvement and bring municipal management closer to the districts.

The new Citizen Participation Regulation in Santa Lucía de Tirajana establishes mechanisms and neighborhood representation bodies with the objective of promoting more active, transparent, and close citizen participation in municipal life. The document includes the creation of six Neighborhood Councils and the Municipal Council for Citizen Participation, spaces intended to channel proposals, needs, and initiatives from residents and collectives within the municipality.
The mayor, Francisco García, and the Councilor for Citizen Participation, Arminda Santana, presented the regulation's content to representatives of associations and social entities. The text will be distributed among the approximately 140 registered associations in the municipality and will be available on the City Council's website and social media.
Mayor Francisco García highlighted that the regulation serves as a tool to facilitate democratic participation, defining clear channels and protocols. He added that the municipal government's objective is to bring the administration closer to citizens, making it a space for permanent dialogue and response to real needs.
Councilor Arminda Santana explained that the regulation was developed through a participatory process, combining in-person meetings and digital contributions. She emphasized that the new participation bodies aim for management that is closer to the reality of each neighborhood and more connected to the daily lives of the population, aspiring to be vibrant and open spaces for future decision-making.
The regulation foresees the creation of Neighborhood Councils in Santa Lucía casco, Doctoral, Vecindario y Cruce de Sardina, Balos, El Canario y Los Llanos, and Pozo Izquierdo. These councils will facilitate the discussion of proposals, direct communication between citizens and the City Council, and the relaying of neighborhood concerns.
Currently, Santa Lucía de Tirajana has 138 registered associations from various fields. Since February 2024, the School for Collectives has been operating, a municipal initiative to provide training to entities and individuals interested in citizen participation, thereby strengthening the associative fabric.
