An agreement between the Santa Lucía de Tirajana City Council and the company Disa Red de Servicios Petrolíferos will drive the modification of the General Urban Planning Plan (PGO) to reorder a strategic enclave in the center of Vecindario. The plan includes relocating the old gas station from Avenida de Canarias to industrial land in Doctoral, freeing up the current plot for the construction of an emblematic building and public areas.
The protocol, signed by mayor Francisco José García and Disa representatives, lays the groundwork for a future land swap. Disa will cede to the council two plots totaling over 2,200 square meters in the central pedestrian zone in exchange for a municipal plot in the Doctoral industrial estate. This initiative is part of the new General Urban Planning Plan currently under processing.
The current document is a non-binding declaration of intent, whose effective development will depend on urban planning procedures and the approval of the PGO. With this operation, Santa Lucía aims to reconfigure its urban core, improving public space and aligning the municipality's development with criteria of centrality and functionality.
The municipal objective is to allocate this strategic space, which connects with the pedestrian zone and Colón and Primero de Mayo streets, to the creation of a public facility. Although the final design will be defined in the PGO, an emblematic building with an innovative and avant-garde architectural design is planned, increasing its height to stand out in the surroundings and bring administrative services closer to the center.
Francisco García emphasizes that the future building will be an "urban landmark" for Santa Lucía, with a direct impact on design, height, and presence. The aim is for it to become a new visual icon and a hub of activity to revitalize the urban center. This operation follows the removal of another gas station carried out years ago at the Sardina crossroads.
The new PGO also plans to promote the creation of new land areas for public and private housing, the development of economic activities in industrial areas such as Doctoral, and enhance the coastal area while maintaining the roots of residents in the inland areas of the municipality.
