The Santa Lucía de Tirajana City Council will initiate legal actions against Podemos to claim back the cost of compensation exceeding 10,000 euros paid to former councillor Beatriz Mejías Quintana.

The decision was made after a motion presented by the Mixed Group-Neighbours' Association of Santa Lucía de Tirajana - People's Party (AV-SLT-PP) was approved in a plenary session. The initiative aims to initiate an administrative procedure to determine the grounds for taking judicial, administrative, or extrajudicial actions against the political party. The objective is to recover the financial amounts that the local institution has paid or may pay to Beatriz Mejías.
Beatriz Mejías was the lead candidate for Podemos in Santa Lucía de Tirajana in 2019. Following the elections, the local assembly decided to remain in opposition, but Mejías reached an agreement with centre-right and local parties to form a government, becoming first deputy mayor. In June 2019, the leadership of Podemos ordered her expulsion, and in December, she became a non-attached councillor. In September 2019, the then-mayor Santiago Rodríguez (La Fortaleza) dismissed her from her duties, accusing her of "disloyalty" and "defamatory statements". In 2021, she resigned her council seat entirely.

We are committed to defending our municipal assets and demanding economic accountability.

The motion passed with 13 votes in favour from the opposition. The municipal government group opted for 11 abstentions. The City Council's legal and administrative services will evaluate the pertinent legal avenues to reclaim the public funds disbursed.
The plenary session also began with a minute of silence for the victims of the earthquake in Venezuela, requested by mayor Francisco García. The VI Local Plan for Equality of Opportunities between Women and Men 2026-2030, presented by councillor Olga Cáceres, was approved, including measures against gender-based violence and public procurement criteria with a gender perspective. A motion for International LGTBI Pride Day was also passed.
Vox presented initiatives regarding the reopening of the Day Centre for the Elderly, whose construction works were halted as explained by councillor Minerva Pérez, and concerning the annual publication of the economic and social impact of events funded by the City Council. Nueva Canarias put forward two unanimous initiatives to improve road safety on the GC-65 and GC-550, and to strengthen support for students with specific educational needs (NEAE), with councillor Mario Bordón highlighting existing resources.
